ROUGHRIDERS AND
WARRIORS READY TO RUMBLE
It
is a battle of the Gridiron Rookies on Sunday in the latest round
of the British College League, when Caledonian Roughriders play
host to the Sheffield Hallam Warriors at Springburn Astro Turf.
Both sides are
looking to for their first wins in their inaugural campaigns with
the Roughriders having already lost to Sheffield opposition in their
first ever game, going down 12-8 to Sheffield Sabres.
They are now
looking for a major boost of confidence following their 40-8 demolition
last week by the reigning UK Champions, Stirling Clansmen.
Warriors Head
Coach, John Edley has been an admirer of American Football north
of the border and has had a number of experiences of tough matches
in Glasgow as a player.
And with so
much at stake for both teams tomorrow, Edley expects that this upcoming
clash will be one for the books.
“I feel
it has all the makings of a classic,” He said. “Both
teams are looking to notch their first win & both are hungry
to impress in their first year.”
“We will
be bringing over 40 players to the game which is a reduced number
due to travelling restrictions. I have done a little homework on
the Roughriders & I know to expect a physical encounter.”
“Their
Head Coach Suzy McNally has done a fantastic job in putting such
a competitive team together and I’m fully aware that the scores
against them so far this season do not do her or the Roughriders
justice."
"My own
playing career has seen me play against physical & talented
Glasgow teams that contained Scottish American Football heroes like
Scott Couper & Steve McCusker so I know we face a massive task
& must be focussed.”
“I am
fortunate to have a very talented roster with a great team spirit.
In our first year of existence, without even playing a league game,
we managed to get 4 players in to the Northern All-Stars squad &
2 players in to the Great Britain team.”
“With
the exception of our game at Teeside which was subject to some shocking
refereeing decisions the Warriors haven’t been out of a game
yet and we aim to give it our best shot at winning on Sunday."
