Hurricanes
Whitewash Saxons

Dundee Hurricanes
opened their 2004 BSL campaign with a comfortable road victory against
the East Midlands Saxons.
A
Dundee squad of 22 players, including 9 rookies, endured a 9 hour
overnight bus trip to Spalding in Lincolnshire.
And
they opened their account in the first quarter when Quarterback,
Bruce Thomson connected with younger brother Fraser from 30yds out
for the opening touchdown
Then
the Dundee triggerman extended the lead with a short run over the
goal line extended the lead to 12 points.
The Thomson family combination continued in the second quarter when
Fraser Thomson brought in another touchdown pass from 18 yards,
which was then successfully converted by his older brother, making
it 20 unanswered points to the Taysiders.
With
no change to the scoring during the third period, there were early
signs that the long trip was beginning to affect the Hurricanes,
who were missing 3 starting Offensive Lineman and 2 starting defenders.
But after a slow start in the fourth quarter, the Hurricanes managed
to dig deep into their reserves and add to their tally when Quarterback
Thomson connected with his third touchdown pass of the day, this
time finding TE Ricky Hamilton from 8yds out.
The
2 PAT was converted by popular French Running Back Mahamdou Niakate
enabling the Scots to run down the clock on their next possession
Dundee then ran out the remaining time on their next possession
to finish 28-0.
Dundee now open their 1st home game against hotly fancied Edinburgh
Wolves on the 1st May at Dawson Park.
After
their opening victory, Coach Charlie Campbell said, "This was
always going to be difficult due to the time spent travelling down
and shows great character amongst the players to step up and perform
to achieve this opening game result.”
“Yes
we were missing key players and gave away a lot of penalties, but
a win is a win and that is what counts. We now know what we need
to work on over the next few weeks before we tackle the Wolves"
