CLIFF WORLD TOUR 2003

One thing that Cliff Richard and Donny Osmond have in common among many other things is that they can be identified immediately by just mentioning their first name only

Something else they have in common is that they both know how to handle crowds and this becomes very apparent in this the first DVD that Cliff has released

This starts with behind the scenes at the former Harry Webb’s first UK tour in an awfully long time, which started in Dublin and finished at the Bournemouth International Center to a crowd that Cliff thought that was possibly the best of the tour.

Well if that was the case, why didn’t they film that gig so we don’t get a chance to see if he is right or not.

What we do move onto is his jaunts into Europe, Australia and finishing off with an outdoor 2 hour show in Napier, New Zealand.

This DVD give you a chance to get a better insight into the man himself, how a tour of this proportion comes together and truthfully how silly he looks when he shows up at the Arenas. (Check out his Gamekeeper Tweed Jacket and his Rupert the Bear Scarf)

He exits the venues with the scarf covering his mouth to protect the voice from the cold – his words not mine.

However after making his way to the end of this interesting documentary, focusing on himself and his fans reaction to himself – so basically himself, we arrive at where he should be judged……….on stage!

This is where he shows himself to be in excellent voice, with a wide range of material from We Don’t Talk Anymore to plugging the Wanted album with his renditions of classics like Moon River, Richard Marx’s Right here waiting for you as well as cover versions from his past like Neil Diamond’s, Girl You’ll be a woman soon.

The second half of the show delves into his Rock ‘n’ Roll roots – and like his hair, there’s no sign of greying

It’s a superb look back to some of the great Rock and Roll influences of Elvis, Chuck Berry, The Everly Brothers, Jerry Lee Lewis, including Born to Rock and Roll (from the Musical, Time)and many more.

There are far too many highlights to mention, but there are some low points, like the Christmas Medley, which does not to have the desired effect in an open air gig in February.

One may be preaching to the converted here, but is you have not seen him in ages or if you were unfortunate enough to suffer Heathcliff, then go and buy this DVD and see the real Cliff.

Although he may not have many hit singles these days, he’s at his best on Stage.

These two DVDs show that the concerts that these two Gentlemen are doing this summer, should be attended by people who love good music and love experiencing concerts rather than just attend them.
