Comic Book Villains have one thing in common with their opposite numbers - there is always an interesting reason as to what made them the character that they become.
And now, we finally get on a possible insight into the origins of one of the most favourite female villains in the comic books world.
Over the years, the character of Catwoman as adopted many guises in print, on TV and recently on film, usually taking on the Cape Crusader.
Now Halle Berry provides a different insight into one of Bob Kane’s famous feline fetalles who like many superheroes, started off as a mild mannered law abiding citizen who very few people gave the time of day.
Catwoman – to be release on Warner Home Video in January 2005 sees Berry as Patience Phillips, a person who never wants to get on the wrong side of anybody and squanders her artistic talents on a thankless job, as a graphic designer for cosmetic company, Hedare Beauty who’s main moto is youth and beauty at all costs, run by George Hedare (Lambert Wilson) and his Supermodel Wife, Laurel ( Sharon Stone).
But Patience’s life is turned around when she overhears that Hedare’s latest product, a too good to be true beauty cream will bring the wrong kind of devastating results to those who use it.
So with her being in the wrong place at the wrong time, she is murdered in the process.
But like all comic book heroes, she is given a new lease of life thanks to mysterious forces, only this time she processes agility, strength and ultra keen sense – Goodby Patience! Hello Catwoman, a seductive creature who draws a fine line between good and bad.
When she is good, she is very good, when she is bad, she is only as bad as she needs to be!
With this new found abilities, the first thing on Catwoman’s mind is to find the person responsible for putting her alter ego at the bottom of a waste disposal chute.
But her adventures become complicated as Catworman becomes complicates as she becomes linked to an endless number of crimes, from robbery to murders, whilst the policeman investigating the crimes Tom Lore ( Benjamin Bratt) falls for her alter ego Patience.
Therefore it is only a matter of time where these two characters collide.
The main difference between this Catworman character in the Batman stories and this latest incarnation is that we know that the first version is guilty of all crimes thrown against her, but that does not make this version just as intriguing.
There are plenty of action in the movie that should keep comic book fans more than satisfied. Then there is the sight of Halle Berry in her figure hugging all leather outfit cracking her whip.
When it comes to
DVD and Video, that is a welcome added extra.
