Having shattered box office records for an animation film and enjoying success at the Academy Awards, it was only a matter of time before Shrek returned for a new adventure.

Set mostly in Far Far Away, a kingdom looking not unlike Beverley Hills complete with Rodeo Drive and designer outlets Shrek 2 is great fun for the kids and the big kids.

Taking over from where the first movie left off, having just returned from their honeymoon, Shrek and Princess Fiona along with Donkey are invited Fiona’s parents, the King and Queen (voiced by John Cleese and Julie Andrews) to a grand ball at the palace to celebrate her marriage, but she turns up with Shrek and not the Prince Charming they thought she had married.

Mike Myers again supplies the voice of Shrek along with Cameron Diaz as the Princess. Eddie Murphy voices the donkey but the scene stealer is Puss in Boots (Antonio Banderos)

It’s an hour and twenty-five minutes of fun, wit and take offs of movies such as Mission Impossible. All the fairy tale characters are there Pinnochio, 3 Little Pigs, Red Riding Hood, Tom Thumb et al. Oh and Jennifer Saunders voices a scheming Fairy Godmother.

From start to finish Shrek 2 is sheer enjoyment for all but according to the Fairy Godmother ogres don’t live happily ever after or do they? Great soundtrack too.
