Scotland Development Squad Trials – 25 March 2006

Cadet, Junior and Youth players from SFFA member clubs all over Scotland gathered together at Forthbank, Stirling on Saturday 25 March to try out for places on the Scotland Development Squads for 2006.

These players were pre selected by their coaches to get to SDS trials. It is from the Scotland Development Squad (SDS) that we select our Team Scotland at each age level.

After a brief talk from SDS Head Coach: Robbie Paulin, ending with the largest "hands in" and "Scotland on three" shout out witnessed for some time; inclusive of each and every player present along with the SDS Coaches and trainers, they split up onto their age groups.

Warm ups ensued, closely followed by drills and exercises designed to put the players through their paces and help the coaches at each age level to assess each player in all aspects of the sport.

Some two and a half hours later the coaches had made their selections; no easy task given the dedication, determination, level of skills and understanding of their sport shown by all trialists.

This, no doubt, bodes well for the eventual national squads for 2006. It is also a reflection of the increasing standard of coaching at club level throughout the SFFA.

These players will return to Forthbank for the next SDS practice session on 29 April 2006.

Following his first SDS Trials as Head Coach, Robbie Paulin commented "I felt that the standard of players has increased each year and this one was no different. All of the selected players now have a chance to become part of Team Scotland that will play England in November and I hope that all SDS squad members will continue their efforts and enthusiasm throughout all the practices."
