SENIOR GRIDIRON RETURNS TO THE HIGHLANDS

Inverness is the latest city in the UK to be able to offer Senior American Football to its citizens.

Not since the demise of the Ness monsters has the prospect of a Highland Senior Football Team playing in the British National League been so close.

Although, American Football is not new to the Highlands for the last 9 years there have been Youth and Junior teams playing in the British National League and now these players are beginning to progress into the senior ranks.

The senior team is the last (but not least) team of the Inverness Blitz Academy of American Football to become an associate member of the British American Football League (BAFL).

This has been the combination of two years hard work behind the scenes by the senior development committee.

Chairman and Blitz development officer Robbie Paulin said "This is what we have been working towards, now we have a full family so to speak, from junior right through to senior teams able to compete.

This ensures that the hard work that all the coaches and players have put into the game will not stop at the end of youth level."

The Highland Wildcats will be looking to play some friendly games both home and away this season, before hopefully entering the league as full members in 2009.

With the prospect of football being played in Inverness the Head Coach of the senior team Brian MacRae said:

"Although, we will face some strong opposition, I'm sure that all the hard work the players have put in to training will hold us in good stead when we meet the other teams."

"Some of our players have experience at youth level and know what to expect however, some have never played a proper game before but I'm sure they will hold their own."
