Hawks travelled to
Port Glasgow on Sunday to take on the Sharks. CV were first to receive
the ball.
From deep in their
own half the offensive line protected well to allow some power running
from Gary Clark but the drive stalled on the Sharks 30yard line and Inverclyde
took over the ball. However a strong Hawks defense forced the Sharks to
punt the ball.
Both teams were unable
to move the ball before the first quarter drew to a close. Gary Clark
opened Hawks scoring when he barrelled over from the 1 yard line.
The extra point attempt
was no good. Although Shark’s Ross Cuffe & Brian McFerren made
some positive running yards Inverclyde found it difficult to break down
the robust Hawks defense.
Hawks threatened again
when QB David Orr connected with Darren Murray for a 40 yard gain but
Shark’s David Carney Jnr. intercepted the next pass.
Time ran out on the
Sharks as they tried once more to score. The second half opened with the
Hawks Scott Finlay recovering the Hawks kick off to give his team possession.
Once again Gary Clark went to work and raced upfield behind some strong
blocking.
He finished this
off with a 4 yard scamper for his second score of the day.
The extra point kick
was blocked by a swarming Sharks special team.
GAME WAS ABANDONED
IN THE THIRD QUARTER
The Sharks next game
is away to Lancashire Wolverine, who take on the Hawks a week later. Thanks
go to Hawks sponsors Rollon, D&J MacKenzie and Royal Mail.
