TIGERS CRUISE

Glasgow Tigers v Stirling Clansmen Double Header.
Glasgow Tigers cruised
to the BCAFL Scottish Conference title winning a unique double header
clash against the Stirling Clansmen, clocking up 43 points in total without
reply.
The 2006/2007 season
has been one to forget for the Clansmen who had been plagued with endless
call offs due to problems with their home field and when they did get
their games underway, paid the price for lack of activity, not being able
to score a point.
So with the regular
season entering its final week, it was important for the Clansmen to try
and end their season on a positive note and for the Tigers to pick up
the momentum following the previous week’s defeat by Teeside Cougars
as well as their prospective placings in the upcoming playoffs
And with the Scottish
Conference title set to go down to the wire, it was important that the
Glasgow sides were able to fulfil their full regular season calendar.
So instead of playing
four full quarters, it was decided that this fixture would be two games
in one, with the first half counting as one game and the second half as
another.
Even though there
was no news as to what was happening between Cally Roughriders and Edinburgh
Timberwolves, the Tigers went on to the field knowing that they needed
avoided defeat on “both games” to make sure that they finished
top of the BCAFL Scottish Conference standings.
The lack of game time
for the Clansmen became evident during the early stages of the first period
of the “first game” when they fumbled away possession on their
opening drive.
Later on their troubles
continued when Richie Lennon was intercepted by Paul Kirkland and were
promptly punished when Matt McCusker delivered a precision pass to Dan
Seltzer for the opening touchdown.
The Tigers almost
blew it on the conversion attempt, when McCusker fumbled the ball o the
snap, but was quickly recovered by Gregor Hollerin, who took the ball
in for the two point conversion attempt.
Stirling made little
headway on their next drive and were soon punished again, when Grant McAuslan
weaved through the haphazard Stirling defense to run in a comfortable
six points, which soon made it eight with a catch in the endzone to give
the Tigers a 16-0 lead.
Whilst
the Clansmen continued to struggle in attack at the star of the next period,
they were given a boost when the burst the Tiger’s offensive bubble
after McCusker was intercepted by Graham “Wonder Boy” Scott,
who pulled off an excellent diving catch.
Unfortunately the
Clansmen continued to lack ideas in attack and had to surrender possession
again.
And they soon found
themselves back under pressure when Hollerin burned the astro turf gaining
major yardage, only to be stopped at the Stirling 10 yard line.

Minutes later the
Tigers increased their lead when McCusker picked off Matt Norton for another
touchdown, with Hollerin successfully splitting the uprights on the conversion
attempt to give the Glasgow side make it a 23-0 victory in the “first
game”.
