STORM FORCE HURRICANES

Glasgow Tigers 6 Dundee Hurricanes 53

The West Coast Trojans may have captured the Scottish Conference, but the Dundee Hurricanes sent out a clear message to other sides with their sites set on the Division Two Play Offs with a resounding road victory over the Glasgow Tigers.

With the Scottish Division Two done and dusted, this was a must win clash for both sides, hoping to put themselves in the driving seat for the remaining national play off spot.

Both sides came into the game having lost their opening two fixtures, but the Taysiders had the added edge over the Tigers on the defensive side of the ball having conceded only 19 points so far this season, compared to 96 for the Tigers.

Having conceded 62 of those points to the Trojans last week, the Tigers desperately needed a moral boosting result to get their season back on track.

There was very little to separate the teams during the early stages of the first quarter until the scrambling abilities of quarterback, Mark Smith started to have the desired effect, when after two impressive runs resulted in the opening six points for the visitors.

And when Mark Craig split the uprights on a successful conversion attempt, the pressure was on the Tigers to regain the initiative as soon as possible.

But two plays in to the Tigers next possession, disaster struck when William Kojack McLaughlin was picked off by Craig.

The Hurricanes then turned up the pressure when an Andrew Gardner run fell just short of the goal line. Then on the next play, Smith dived over the goal line to give the visitors 13 unanswered points

Dundee got motoring again early in the second quarter when Smith fired a pass to Fraser Thompson, who finished just short of the goal line.

Minutes later Smith took off again, scrambling to the far corner of the endzone for his second touchdown of the day, which was converted again by Craig.
