Tigers romped home to their first BYAFA Championship final with a 54 point
rout over former UK Champions, Clyde Valley Hawks at Cambuslang Rugby
Club.
One of the key elements
in the Tigers success this afternoon, as has been all season was the performance
of their “Power Surge”, Iain “ Sparky” Dick, who
clocked up 4 touchdowns and astonishing 245 yards rushing on the day bringing
his total for the season to a total of 1188.
Following the success
of the Clyde Valley’s Junior side, the Falcons in the recent Junior
Championship, hopes were high that Hawks, despite having to cope with
what has been an emotional roller coaster ride this season, would continue
that success and return to the Youth kitted final for the first time since
winning the title two years ago.
However having beaten
the Hawks twice already this season, the Tigers came into the game as
clear favourites to reach their first major championship berth.
And
the Glasgow outfit got off the mark in the first quarter when Dick ran
in his first touchdown of the day from 21 yards out, with Derek Russell
successfully splitting the uprights for the conversion attempt.
The Tigers had to
wait until the second period when “Sparky” powered through
on another touchdown run.
The Hawks soon had
a mountain to climb when receiver, Kyle Wilson got in the act of finding
the endzone, connecting with a 21 yard pass from quarterback Kris Kennedy
to make it 20 unanswered points for the Tigers, with Russell once again
nailing the conversion attempt for a 22-0 half time lead.
