Thank "Gord" for that!!!!
Glasgow Tigers 8 Merseyside Nighthawks 6

A fourth quarter touchdown from Gordon Lochree, took the shine off Merseyside's Northern Conference championship winning season earning the Glasgow Tigers a deserved come from behind 8-6 victory following a dull first half.

A series of disappointing results throughout the season, meant that the play offs were out with the Tigers reach, but they not only had a final chance to end their season on a positive note, but better last seasons stats with a 5-5 record.

However with out the service of starting players like Jamie McCansh, Iain "Sparky" Dick and Graeme Clee for this last game of the season, this was chance for the Tigers rookies to earn their stripes and stake a strong claim for a starting spot next season.

For Merseyside, the Conference was all wrapped up and it was vital to keep the momentum from a successful regular season going, ahead of the upcoming play offs.

And even though they turned up with a large squad their was no evidence that this was a team with an 8-1 record as it was the Tigers that came close to opening the scoring on their opening drive.

That unfortunately was the only bright spot on what was an extremely dull and sloppy first half, with not surprisingly no points on the board going into the break.

In fact as we waited for another 2 quarters of "excitement" one onlooker decided to make an early exit to do some shopping at "B and Q*. I asked if it was to by a tin of paint and watch it dry - it was certain to be more exciting.

However for those who did stay, it turned out to be certainly worthwhile in the end.

Even though there was not many points to show for it, we did have a tense finish to what was hard fought second half and a deserved end to the Tigers season.

At the start of the second quarter, the pitch continued to look a plough field, but the visitors looked as if they had made a breakthrough early in the third quarter.

Having recovered a fumble deep in Tigers territory, 2 plays later, Michael Banks powered through a mass of bodies for the opening six points.

The Glasgow Defense hit Merseyside on their next drive, when rookie, Matt Crammond brought down Banks in his own endzone for a two point safety.

The Tigers Defense continued to wear Merseyside down even thought their offense was struggling to get past their own half of the field.

Then inside the final minutes, the Tigers offensive machine got in to gear with some precision passes from quarterback Ally Choat taking the home side to Merseyside's 16 yard line

A face mask penalty put the Tigers in excellent field position and with a face mask penalty, Glasgow soon found themselves first and goal at the 1 yard line.

And then, Lochrie finished the move off, powering through for a deserved touchdown.

With just one score in it Tigers rear guard had to dig in deep to hold off the English side in the muddy end of the field during the final minutes but the home side dug in deep in the trenches and put up a resolute resistance and came away with a deserved victory.
