After days of torrential rain, the pitch was far from
ideal for football and was to have a profound affect on the lack of action
during the opening periods as both teams were focusing on staying on their
feet in the muddy surface and not give up too many mistakes too early.
And after a dull opening spell, things started to pick
up in the final minutes of the 1st quarter when a Rams punt was blocked
and recovered by the Tigers, giving the Tigers excellent field position.
Then
two plays into the 2nd period, the Tigers opened up the Rams rear guard,
when first year squad member, Kieran Phillips sprinted to the far corner
of the endzone for a touchdown, which was converted by Derek Russell for
an 8-0 lead.
The Tigers were giving the Rams very little room for manoeuvre
on their next drive with some ferocious hard hitting, resulting in little
game for the North Lanarkshire Side.
Things continued to look good for the Tigers early in
the third quarter, but they were soon ender pressure when the Rams forced
a fumble, which was recovered by Jamie McCoy, sprinting more than 30 yards
for 6 welcome points.
The Tigers still manage to hold on to their lead following
the failed conversion attempt.
But their lead slipped through their fingers early in
the 4th quarter when Quarterback Jonny Ewing launched a beautifully weighted
pass to McCoy who evaded his double team coverage, sprinting down the
side lines, crossing the goal line to put the Rams infront for the first
time.

As the minutes ticked away, the strength and size of the
Tigers squad was starting to make its mark on the Rams, who were not getting
to their tackles as quick as they had been earlier in the game.
The Rams were desperately trying to hold onto their slim
lead, but the breakthrough came 6 minutes of the game remaining, when
receiver, Jason Gillespie showed some terrific determination, shaking
off a number of challenges grinding out some major yardage, only to run
out of steam 14 yards from the finish.
Then minutes later, the Tigers made one big final push
for the endzone, with Kris Kennedy stuck somewhere in the middle of a
mass of bodies, but some how managed to get the ball over the line, putting
the Tigers 2 points infront.
And after another Derek Russell conversion, the Rams were
now facing an up struggle to snatch a late victory.
And with 90 seconds remaining, the game was finally killed
off when Brodie McDonald intercepted a long range pass.
