TROJANS TROUNCE TIGERS
British American Football Community League
Division 2 North Glasgow Tigers 0 West Coast Trojans 60
Following their performances last year, I don’t think
may people would have predicted this score line at the weekend. West Coast smashed through the 100 points barrier
without reply after just two games at the weekend, following an emphatic
60-0 thrashing of the Glasgow Tigers at Lochinch. Last year, both sides shared the spoils during a
tight match up last year and with both sides running up emphatic
victories against Carlisle in their opening fixtures in this campaign. The Tigers had played more games than the Trojans
coming into this fixture and even though they were looking to bounce
back from a defeat by Edinburgh the week before, they were surely going
to give the Trojans their toughest test so far.
Well
that was the theory anyway. The Tigers tried to hit the Trojans hard on their
open drive, but their efforts countered for nothing and had to punt away
possession. The home side then found
themselves on the back foot when Jordan Falconer, returning for his
first game in two years , turned in some big yardage taking the ball all
the way to the Tigers 25 yard line.
Minutes later, Quarterback Gary McNey fired
a long diagonal pass to the far corner to Tommy McGeorge, who made an
excellent catch under pressure for the opening touchdown. McGeorge pulled in a second touchdown catch with a
similar move to before, but with more time on his hands. McNey followed
it up with a pass into the endzone to
Bud McFerren for a two point conversion. The rout continued when McNey connected with McGeorge
again to make it 20 unanswered points.
He then fired another precision pass to David Fallon for another
successful two point conversion. The Trojans stepped up the pressure when McFerren
blasted through a hole in the Tigers defense for a huge gain and a clear
route to the endzone, only to be denied thanks to a last gasp challenge
inside the 20 yard line. But the McNey/McGeorge combination finished the drive
of when the receiver pulled in his fourth touchdown catch of the day and
Stephen O’Neil powering through to make it 30 unanswered points for the
visitors. There was no respite for the Tigers, when early in
the second half, McFerren turned on the speed again, holding off a few
poor challenges, ending with him flying through the air with the
greatest of ease, doing
just enough place the ball inside the corner of the endzone for another
touchdown.
The visitors were on the march again when Scott
Little sprinted 48 yards down the far side taking the ball in for
another impressive six points. The Tigers handed the Trojans another golden
opportunity when a 15 yard penalty handed them excellent field position.
But with the game out of their reach, there was a determination
to restore some pride and halt the Trojans momentum, with some crunching
tackles that would have registered on the Richter Scale. But another impressive run from McFerren put the
visitors in sight of the goal line again.
Minutes later Falconer ran an easy touchdown , which was followed
by Ruaraidh MacDonald pulling in another 2 point catch. The action seemed to fall flat during the final
period, but it was not long before the Tigers troubles continued, when
pinned deep in their half, they attempted to punt the ball clear of
their redzone, but a high snap saw the ball fly over the punter’s head
and flew out the endzone for a 2 point safety. Despite the emphatic score line, the Tigers continued to work hard, determined to take something out of what was a one sided game.
But it was no surprise to see
that the Trojans still had plenty of ammunition at their disposal with
minutes left on the clock, when McNey fired a long diagonal pass to
MacDonald who made a great catch under pressure.
Minutes later, Kenny Hoggan brought in another 2 point catch for
a 60-0 final score
