Glasgow Tigers 7 Bannerman High Wildcats 25
Glasgow Tigers
failed to end the regular season on a winning note after going down
to a come from behind victory against the Wildcats.
The home side
cancelled out a touchdown run from James Wilson with an interception
return from Andrew Burns, which was followed by a successful conversion
attempt from David Fallon to give the Tigers a 7-6 lead
But the Wildcats
dug their claws in for the remainder of the game and regained their
lead with a second score from Wilson with the Wildcats finishing
the game off with a touchdown double from Scottish Junior Baseball
Internationalist, Brandon Stenson.
Even though
an appearance in the League’s first ever final was beyond
their reach their was no let up in the competitive element, with
both teams producing a very entertaining encounter.
Both teams held
their ground during the opening ten minutes, until the Wildcats
broke the deadlock when Wilson shot down the far side of the field
for the opening six points.
The Tigers,
still searching for their first win of the campaign stepped up a
gear and got their just rewards, when Nik Halfpenny recovered a
Stewart Crichton fumble.
But Glasgow
failed to capitalise on their good fortune and were forced concede
possession.

Then after giving up an interception inside the final minutes of
the half the momentum swung dramatically back in Glasgow’s
favour when Wildcats Quarterback was picked off by Burns, who took
the bal back up field for a tying score, which was then followed
a by a successful extra point conversion, giving the Tigers a 1
point half time lead.
The Bannerman
offensive machine was back in motion early in the second half when
a big gain from Wilson took the Wildcats to the Tigers 23 yard line.
Then on a big
fourth down attempt, Wilson eat up some more crucial yardage, shaking
a off a couple of challenges taking the ball into the far corner
of the end zone to put the Wildcats back in front.
The Tigers turned
over possession on their next drive following an interception from
Darren McCulloch.
And minutes
later, Stenson burned the turf with an impressive touchdown run
to put Bannerman 18-7 ahead.
The Tigers stepped
up a gear and were soon threatening the Wildcats endzone thanks
to impressive yardage from Scott McIntosh.
But with the
goal line very much in their sights, disaster struck when a pass
was tipped in the air with the ball falling into the hands of Stenson,
who ran back the full length of the field for what was the best
touchdown of the afternoon.
The Tigers afternoon
of misery was complete when McCulloch picked off Scott Murray for
the extra point conversion.
