TIGERS RUN AGROUND
Glasgow Tigers 8 Lancashire Wolverines 13

The explosive start to the Glasgow Tigers 2008 campaign seemed to be a dim and distant memory following another disappointing home defeat at the weekend.

In what was a disappoint offensive display, with a next to non existent passing game, and with very little room for manoeuvre in the back fields, the Tigers were edged out by the Lancashire Wolverines. 13-8

But despite their problems in attack, a hard fought defensive performance meant that this was a game that could have gone the other way following Nick Irwin's touchdown and two point conversion in the fourth quarter left the Tigers with just needing a score to win the game.

In what was the perfect day for football, but it was anything but a perfect start for the Tigers, who went three and out on their opening drive.

The Wolverines look more impressive taking the ball down to the ten yard line, but a tough stand off from the Tigers meant that (27) 's field goal fell just short of the posts.

Despite few brief flashes, the Tigers rushers were having to work a lot harder than necessary, due to a lack of blocking by their offensive line.

And with the home defense standing their ground against the English attack, it was not surprising to see no change to the scoring at the end of the first period.

Lancashire continued to pose a major threat early in the second quarter when their line cleared the way for Sam Fogg to make eat up the yardage, stopping just short of the Glasgow 13 yard line.

On the next play, Fogg broke two challenges to take the ball into the endzone, but the Tigers got a break when the score was chalked off for a holding penalty .

The Tigers then started to make an impression with their passing game when Ally Choat made his first completion of the day, hooking up with (89) Ryan McCluskey, who made a great catch, but the play was called back.

Minutes later, the momentum continued when Choat, hooked up with McCluskey again. But disaster struck on the next play when Choat under pressure looked as if he was going to throw the ball out of bounds, but the ball went astray, straight into the hands of (55).

But thankfully for the Tigers, the defense came to their rescue and shut down the Wolverines attack once again.

But with seconds of the first half remaining, Lancashire stepped up the pressure on the Tigers when (11) ran in with very little resistance for a 13-0 lead.

With Kris Kennedy taking over at quarterback, their seemed to be a new lease of live in the Tigers offense, making a positive start to the first quarter, taking the ball down to the 9 yard line.

But their lack of success in the passing game meant that the drive stalled and Lancashire regain possession deep in their own half.

It was becoming a very productive day at the office for Fogg with some more big runs.

But the defensive trade off meant that there was no change in scoring going into the final quarter in the game.

Then the Tigers running game, which seemed to be struggling all day, suddenly exploded into live.

When Neil Irwin sprinted for more than half the length of the field for a welcome touchdown, which he followed up with a two point conversion run, to make it a five point game.

Unfortunately the Tigers could not keep the momentum going and they eventually ran out of stream during the final seconds, when Kennedy's last gasp past finished way off target.
