TROJANS MOVE TO SCOTSTOUN STADIUM
British American Community Football League side, The
West Coast Trojans have pulled off a major coup in the acquisition of
Scotstoun Stadium in Glasgow as their home base for the 2011 season.
The team have come a long way since their first
season in 2005, playing in the astro-turf of a Port Glasgow School.
And having spent a number of seasons in the King George V Playing
Fields at Renfrew, the Trojans will kick off their new campaign at a
venue that is regarded as a major athletics venue with a new state of
the art 4,500 seated main stand with a smart 2,500 stand opposite.
Over the years, Scotstoun has its own gridiron
history having played host to a number of high profile American Football
games, including BAFL Semi Finals, Home Nation Championship matches and
was once a base for the Scottish Claymore National Player Trials.
The announcement of the Trojans new home has been the
result of months of talks between Trojans GM Gary McNey and Scotstoun
Bosses.
And now they have finally been given the green light,
the Trojans moving to a major sporting venue in Glasgow will be a
welcome boost to the city’s sporting profile ahead of the 2014
Commonwealth Games and their various initiatives to get fit and active.
Speaking on the Trojans Website, www.west-coast
–trojans.com, McNey said: “This is huge as far as American Football goes
in Scotland, Scotstoun (in my opinion) is by far the best facility for
any team in Scotland and one of if not the best of any in the UK, the
facility is awesome and will give us the opportunity to offer more than
a “game in a park” type football this year”
“Glasgow has always had a big American football fan
base, and many of these guys attend events like the Superbowl bash that
the Trojans put together, speaking to many of the guys they are keen and
excited to be able to once again, sit in a superb stadium and watch
American football like the done previously at Hampden supporting the
Scottish Claymores”
And with Glasgow now hosting
two senior American football
teams in the city, West Coast Trojans and Glasgow Tigers (at Lochinch)
there will be plenty action for their fans to savour during the coming
months, including what is certain to be some mouth-watering derby
clashes.
The Trojans will be advertising their home games over
the coming month ahead of their first game on the 8th May against the
Clyde Valley Blackhawks. If you would like to be put on the Trojans
mailing list or just have a question about Scotstoun or the Trojans you
