The extra five yards made little difference to the
Trojans as the Dundee Defensive line turned up the pressure on McNey
who was sacked, leaving them with a mountain to climb in order to
keep the drive alive.
With no change in the scoring, both sides suffered
key losses in the second quarter, with Falconer forced to watch
from the side lines due to an injured hand with Dundee’s key
play maker, Mark Smith also out through injury, with Player Coach,
Alex Brannan taking over the offensive controls.
The change in personally seemed to have greater
effect on the visitors when Brannan was picked off by Brian McFerrin,
having the Trojans a change to get back into the game starting a
new drive on the Dundee 22 yard line.
The
momentum dramatically swung back in the Taysiders favour when McNey
was picked off by Bruce Thompson.
However the problems continued for the stuttering
Dundee offense when they turned over possession again with Scott
McMenemy getting in the way of a misdirected pass, returning the
ball all the way back for a welcome touchdown.
The last time these two teams met the game was brought
to a sad conclusion when the game was halted due to a horrific career
ending knee injury to the Trojans star receiver, Alan “Neph”
Street, who still faces at least another year of rehab.
But today the popular receiver was watching the
game from the sidelines and in a terrific display of sportsmanship,
both teams put the tensions of their on the field battle aside to
pay tribute to the popular receiver's achievements for the Trojans
during the first season gathering in the centre of the field
at half time for a special presentation where Street's number 89
Trojans shirt was officially retired and was presented to Alan by
McNey.
