But it was his nephew Alan Street that proved to
be the man with the Velcro tipped fingers helping the West Coast
Trojans today to record a 46-12 demolition of the Dundee Hurricanes
at Port Glasgow.
The Trojans had the game effectively wrapped up
when touchdowns from Jordan Falconer and Jon Sutherland along with
two scores from Street to give the League newcomers a 26-0 half
time lead over the reigning Scottish Division Two Champions.
The rout continued with Street adding two more touchdowns,
but the Hurricanes brought some respectability to the score line
with kick off return by Ryan Crichton, but the Trojans stretched
to a 40 point lead with a 65 yard run from Jon Sutherland.
Despite the one sided affair, the Hurricanes managed
to have the final say when Fraser Thompson ran in another six points
for the visitors, who are still searching for their first win of
the season, whereas the Trojans dream season continues with three
straight wins.
And for Street, after scoring three touchdowns during
their victory over the Tigers, this was another successful day at
the office.
He said: “If every day was like that then
I would have been looking to play for the Claymores.”
“I got three TD’s last week, one chopped
off. I got four today and one chopped off, next week I think that
means that I need to get five.”
27 year old Street originally came through the ranks
as a receiver with Glasgow Lions after starring for the junior side,
which was coached by his Uncle Steve with both players hanging up
their pads following their appearance in 2001.
Both receivers are amongst a number of seasoned
ex players joining the Trojans in their first season. And with the
way things have gone so far, he has been pleased with the way the
team has been coming together.
“I
think that a big part of that is down to their attitude at training,”
he said. “That is one of the reasons I came back to play again
was that I was impressed with the set up of the team and everybody’s
desire to play and win.
“And each game goes buy, we seem to be gelling
bit by bit. “
“There were a lot of guys that had stopped
playing for one reason or another and the more that came back, in
got other players interested in coming back.”
“We have now got a good squad and players
with a lot of experience and will help blend with the good rookies
we have got.”
“We are looking forward to playing Edinburgh
next week. There a few players playing there that I have played
with before.2
