Since then the Inverclyde outfit’s progress
has continued with a convincing victory over the Glasgow Tigers
last week, where as the Hurricanes were still looking for their
first win of the season having lost their last game to the Edinburgh
Wolves.
So this revenge was very much on the Hurricanes
mind as they had the chance to get their season back on track and
reserve their week one result.
But after a hard fought opening spell, the momentum
appeared to be swinging in the Trojans favour when Jon Sutherland
returned a punt attempt to around midfield.
Then on the next play, his associate in the backfields,
Jordan Falconer, burned the artificial turf with a 39 yard run to
the Dundee 18 yard line.
But the Hurricanes defense weathered the storm and
forced the home side to gamble on fourth down conversion inside
the visitor’s redzone.
But heavy pressure from the home rear guard resulted
in very little gain for the reigning Scottish Champions and they
were forced to punt away possession again with the Trojans starting
a new drive inside the Dundee half.
And
on the first play, Falconer broke free with a 31 yard into the endzone
for the opening six points.
The Trojans stretched their lead early in the second
quarter when Quarterback Gary McNey picked off Street for another
six points, with Sutherland adding the conversion attempt to make
it 14-0 Trojans.
The moment swung back in the home side favour when
the defense forced a Dundee fumble, which was recovered by former
Scottish Claymores, Paul Balfour. Then minutes later, showed a clean
pair of heels with a 50 yard run into the endzone.
And with 22 seconds of the first half remaining,
Street pulled in his second touchdown catch of the day to give the
home side an unassailable 26 point lead.
There was no change in the scoring till the early
stages of the final period, when McNey picked off Street at the
far corner of the end zone to give West Coast 32 unanswered points.
Dundee’s troubles continued when Bruce Thompson
was intercepted by Mike Smith. Then Street used his height advantage
to great effect, beating two defensive backs to another Gary McNey
pass and bring the ball to the house once again for a 38-0 lead.
Even though the game was over bar the shouting,
the Inverclyde outfit were brought down to earth on the kick off
that followed, with returner Ryan Crichton finding daylight through
the middle, sprinting all the way home for an opening score.
And after the Hurricanes had one of their linemen
ejected, the Trojans went further ahead when Sutherland tore down
field once again with a 51 yard touchdown run.
Even though they were fighting for pride, the never
say die attitude of the Taysiders came through during the final
minute of the game when Jordan Falconer was stripped of possession
by Fraser Thompson who sprinted into the endzone for a 46-12 final
score.
