TROJANS BACK ON FORM !!!!!
West Coast Trojans 36 Gateshead Senators 8
Gateshead Senators are no strangers to followers of American Football in Scotland, but they would have every right to be feeling fed up traveling north of the border following a convincing 36- 8 defeat by the West Coast Trojans at Renfrew.
A few weeks ago, the Geordies were on the receiving end of a 50-3 thrashing at the hands of long term rivals East Kilbride Pirates, the visitors were looking to get their season back on track against a Trojans side, who have had more than their own fair share of problems to contend with this season.
No sides were willing to concede anything during the early stages of the first half which in the end resulted in a hard fought, but a less than riveting first quarter.
But the game soon came to life, when Head Coach Gary McNey, once again taking up the role as quarterback fired a completion to Craig Fulton, bringing the Trojans to midfield.
A strong display by the Trojans O Line and some strong running by Jon Sutherland brought the home side in reach of the Gateshead goaline.
And it looked at the English side's defense were going to shut down the Trojans drive down.
But the Trojans decided to push forward with a big fourth down move when Sutherland barged through a mass of bodies for the opening score, with Dave Pasnik adding the extra point conversion for a 7-0 Trojans lead.
As the minutes of the first half ticked away, there was very little evidence to suggest that the Senators were going to find a way back into this game.
And inside the final two minutes before the break, the visitors were in further trouble when Sutherland broke through a gap on the far side and sprinted 70 yards for his second touchdown of the day, which was once again completed with a Pasnik extra point conversion kick.
Gateshead tried to push the Trojans back towards their goal line, but time ran out for them to reduce the gap going into the break and they were soon in even more trouble in the third quarter when a deep pass fell into the hands of Brian “Bud” McFerren, who return the ball back to the endzone for a further six points for the Scots.
There appeared to be no looking back for the Trojans as they continued to turn up the pressure on the helpless Geordies, but as the home side appeared to be knocking on the door of the endzone once again, the Trojans suffered a lapse in concentration when Sutherland was stripped of possession 20 yards from the goal line, with 52 ( name to be confirmed) sprinted up field to give the visitors a surprising touchdown against the run of play, with an open 5 ( TBC) bringing in the two point catch.

The Trojans managed to regroup, with a well take Pasnik field goal to give the Scots a 15 point advantage.
Then on the next Gateshead drive, the Trojans were back in full control, when McFerren grabbed his second interception return all the way to the endzone, giving the Renfrew side a commanding lead.
And as Gateshead ran out of idea's the Trojans drove home the final nail in the coffin during the dying seconds of the game with McNey's diagonal pass to Ross Murray for the final touchdown, with Pasnik rounding off a somewhat satisfying day at the office for the Scots nailing another successful conversion kick making it a 36-8 final score.
