World
Bowl XI
- Carluke's Euro Challenge

In
the sweltering heat of the Glasgow's Hollyrood Sports Centre, the
Predators embarked on their European campaign.
Game
one was against the tournament hot favourites, Holland.
And after clocking the Dutch for the first time it was obvious that
they certainly feed their youngsters differently over there.
This
was a contest for kids aged fourteen and under. And judging
by the size of them, they must stick them in fertiliser at regular
intervals as well
They
certainly did not make them that size when I was at school.
One of them looked big enough to drive the team bus.
Despite a brave fight by Carluke, they had no answer to the size
and speed of the Dutch desperados -aint that a surprise!
Things looked much better for the Scots on their next game against
Germany, when they scored on their opening drive, but unfortunately
that just upset them as they came back to score two touchdowns
Unfortunately we had to make a brief exit from the proceedings as
we had an urgent appointment with the winners of our World Bowl
competition.
We
had arranged for up to four people to travel to the big game in
style in a white Lincoln Stretch Limousine.
WE
HAVE TO SAY A BIG THANKS TO BILLY SWEENEY AND ACE LIMOUSINE HIRE
FOR THEIR HELP IN MAKING THIS POSSIBLE.

Gordon
had arrived at the ground to take pictures of our prize winners
- see our coverpage.
Unfortunately I arrived at the ground as the limo was leaving -
CAR TROUBLE, MINE. TYPICAL!
I
had to shift the car to a traffic cone free zone after several were
hovering round my motor that were not there earlier in the morning.
On
our return to the Sports Centre, the Scots had finished their game
against the Germans, who came out on top according to my information.
Now
they were set to take on Finland, which appeared to be a much more
even contest as only one of them was bigger than the Scots.
And
even though it was a close contest, it appeared that the opposition
were forgetting the reason behind this tournament - FUN.
It
was therefore very much against the spirit of the contest when certain
players took it upon themselves to taunt the Scottish bench when
they scored a touchdown, a point that did not go down too well with
the gridiron locals.
In
the end, the Predators finished the day with a one point victory
over the Fins to clinch a hard earned fifth place. They may
not have taken the European honours, but they did themselves and
the country proud.
Now
they have to start from the beginning again and work up towards
next year's European final in Germany.
Ok
the World Bowl venue has not been decided yet, but I would say that
it is a good enough guess.
But
if they did make it to the Euro Final next year, they will have
plenty time to figure out a way of beating the Dutch side - issuing
each player with a pair of stilts would be a start.
