SAU POP Warner
Scotland League Week Three

In week 3 of the SAU
Pop Warner junior kitted American Football League the Highland Wildcats
were at home to the team that went through last season undefeated, the
Clyde Valley Falcons.
Both sides knew this
was going to be hard fought no holds barred game and it certainly didn’t
disappoint, twice the Wildcats drove over 80 yards down field and twice
the Falcons defence held them just a few yards short, the Wildcats were
not going to settle for a field goal but on both occasions the Falcons
goal-line defence held firm.
With strong winds
and rain both sides turned mainly to the running game with some aggressive
blocking and tackling this was a battle fought in the trenches with the
front lines showing no mercy on each other.
David Bull, centre
for the Wildcats along with guards Thomas Grant and Niall Hamilton battled
every play against the relentless defensive line of the Falcons, Ryan
Rodger, Keir Davie and Alan Harrison, the immovable object versus the
unstoppable force.
The first and only
score of the game came in the third quarter when the Wildcats again drove
down the length of the field with the Falcons defence making the Wildcats
work for every inch.
Again
the Falcons defence halted the Wildcats only a few yards short of the
endzone, however James Pyke on a toss play smashed his way into the endzone,
the officials marked the ball just short saying his knee was down.
The Wildcats regrouped
and again Pyke ran the ball in, again the TD was disallowed, but third
time lucky for the Wildcats and James Pyke as once more on a toss play
he crossed the goal-line and much to the relief of the Wildcats sideline
the score stood.
Final score
Highland Wildcats 6, Clyde Valley Falcons 0.
The next game for
the Highland Wildcats is on Sunday 3rd October at the Bught Park, Inverness,
when they play the Cumbernauld Giants.
