Inverness Wildcats v North Lanarkshire GiantsGIANT KILLERS

The Highland Wildcats opened their season in the SAU Pop Warner 9 a-side junior kitted league with a win over the North Lanarkhire Giants by 42 points to 12.

The Giants were first to open the scoring, with their first drive resulting in a touchdown, despite some aggressive blitzing from the Wildcats defensive ends, Dougie Prentice and Kirk Flett, forcing the hapless Rams QB to fumble the ball twice, the Giants were able to take advantage of these situations and managed to set themselves up for their TD.

The Wildcats first drive saw the Highland team settle down and drive consistently the length of the field with QB Paul Kirkland rounding off the drive with a 17 yard pass to tight end Angus Mackintosh for the Cats first TD.

A power dive from Chris Gordon added the extra points to give the Wildcats the lead.

The Wildcats extended their lead in the 2nd quarter as Chris Gordon ran in further 2 touchdowns.

In the third quarter the Giants again capitalised in an error by the Wildcats defence to give them their 2nd TD, however the Wildcats defence showed little mercy for the Giants QB with 12 sacks recorded during the game.

The Wildcats added a further 2 TDs in the 3rd quarter with Paul Kirkland and James Pyke adding one each. Angus Mackintosh got his 2nd TD of the game in the 4th quarter to finish the scoring.

The Highland Wildcats next opponents will be the Bannerman High Wildcats on the 12th September with the North Lanarkshire Giants taking on the Clyde Valley Falcons.
