Panthers fall prey for Highland WildcatsHighland Wildcats

In the opening game of a double header an understrength Paisley Panthers team faced the Highland Wildcats on their own turf.

QB Kenny Mackay opened the scoring for the Wildcats when he ran in from 9 yards on a quarterback keeper, a good defensive stop by the Panthers prevented the PAT.

The Wildcats defense stood firm and denied the Panthers any yardage, but after the punt and on the Wildcats first offensive a play, a forced fumble was recovered by the Panthers and ran in to tie the scores.

The Wildcats then piled on the pressure when David Underwood intercepted a Panther pass and ran it back 70 yards for a touchdown. Mackay added the extra points on a QB sneak.

On the next Wildcats drive Underwood again found himself in the Panthers endzone this time after a 20 yard pass.

The second half began with Euan Rennie finding himself on the end of a short pass after which he ducked and dived 40 yards up field to add to Wildcats tally.

The luckless Panthers then had a pass intercepted by Rennie inside their own half setting up another Underwood touchdown this time from a 15 yard pass. Callum Hickie ran in the 2 point conversion.

The Panthers on their next drive were once more forced to punt and Underwood was once more on hand as returner to scop the ball up and return it 75 yards for his fourth TD of the day.

With the Wildcats firmly in control Rennie chalked up his second TD with a 40 yard TD reception and Underwood adding the 2 point conversion on a reverse play.

MVP for the game was Wildcats quarterback Kenny Mackay, thanks go to the Panthers who battled bravely to end.
