In the first of a series
of games of junior 9 on 9 tackle football the Highland Wildcats
based in Inverness travelled to Greenock to play the Inverclyde
Raiders.
It was the Wildcats
that struck early on their third play of their first drive when
Shaun Mitchell broke free for a 35 yard touchdown run, Chris Gordon
picked up the extra points on a powerful run straight up the middle.
The Wildcats continued
the pressure with some aggressive blitzing that stopped the Raiders
dead in their tracks leaving them no option to punt on their next
two drives from deep in their own half. Shaun Mitchell collected
his second touchdown of the game when he intercepted a Raiders pass
and returned it 15 yards.

The Raiders showed great determination which paid
off when they pulled 6 points back with a short pass up the middle
to their tight end who ran in from 5 yards out.
With one eye fixed on the game clock the Wildcats
drove up field and in the dying seconds of the first half on a toss
play to the left Graham Scott dived into the endzone to take the
score at halftime to Highland Wildcats 20 Inverclyde Raiders 6.
The third quarter saw both defences stopping the offences from scoring.
In the fourth quarter Graham Scott picked up his
second touchdown running in from 10 yards, Shaun Mitchell added
2 more points on a dive play bringing the final score to Highland
Wildcats 28 Inverclyde Raiders 6.
The return game is scheduled for the 29th February
at the Bught park, Inverness
