STORM FORCE HITS EDINBURGH
Edinburgh
Wolves 0
Dundee Hurricanes 44
Dundee Hurricanes
may have already booked their place in the play off stages of the
British Senior League Division Two play offs, but there was no evidence
of them taking things easy after running up a 44 point whitewash
on the road against Edinburgh Wolves today ( Aug 1st)
Touchdowns from
Mahamadou Niakate and Fraser Thompson helped give the visitors a
15-0 half time lead.
And despite
of moment of madness during the latter stages of the first half
when the Hurricanes had a man ejected, Dundee continued to dominate
the proceedings during the remainder of the match,
In what was
an eventful second half, the Wolves offensive machine went into
meltdown with three out of the four touchdowns scored coming off
the back of interceptions.
Edinburgh, who
missed out on the knock stages flowing last week’s demoralising
defeat at the hand of Glasgow Tigers were now battling for pride
and came into the game minus a number of key players.
But the home
side could not have asked for a better start on the first drive
of the game when the Hurricanes fumbled the ball on their first
play, which was recovered by Derek Bryce.
The Wolves made
very little progress up field and turned away possession, but the
defense forcing two Dundee turnovers.
Unfortunately
the Wolves failed to make the most of their opportunities due to
a tough stand off from the Dundee defense, who soon turned the tables
on the home side, when David Glendinning was picked off by Fraser
Thompson, who took the ball back to the Edinburgh 20 yard line.
Then on the
next play, a hand off to Niakate saw the Dundee running back take
the ball down the far side to the corner of the Wolves endzone for
the opening touchdown, which he followed with a successful two point
conversion to go 8 points ahead.
