WOLVES FAIL TO WEATHER THE STORM PT2

Dave Molloy - Edinburgh Wolves

Edinburgh running back Dave Molloy tried to get the Edinburgh offense moving the ball upfield at the start of the second quarter, but the drive unfortunately stalled and had to surrender possession to the Hurricanes.

Dundee responded in style when Bruce Thompson fired a long pass to his brother Fraser, who easily slipped past his marker for another score, with Niakate splitting the uprights with the conversion attempt to make it 15 points to the good.

During the latter stages of the first half, the Wolves appeared to be getting their offensive machine in gear when a 15 yard run from David Molloy took them to just short of the Dundee 10 yard line.

A five yard penalty brought Dundee even closer to the goal line, but a strong defensive stand off from the visitors forced the wolves to go in at the break with nothing to show for their efforts.

The Wolves made adjustments at half time, with Danny Guy taking over at Quarterback at the start of the third quarter.

But disaster struck when the replacement triggerman was picked off by Fraser Thompson inside the Edinburgh redzone.

The Wolves looks to have held the Dundee attack at bay until a dubious pass interference penalty on a Dundee fourth down attempt brought the visitors to two yards short of the goal line.

Then minutes later, Niakate burst through for his second score of the day, which he converted to make it 22-0 in Dundee’s favour.

Fraser Thompson goes for the endzoneEdinburgh’s troubles continued on their next drive, when Guy was picked off a second time by Thompson, who this time returned the ball back upfield for another Dundee touchdown.

The Wolves continued to dig themselves into a hole early in the final quarter, when they failed to make any progress on a fake punt move, giving the visitors great field position.

But Hurricanes did not get things their own way for a change and had to settle for a field goal attempt from Niakate, who coolly split the uprights to make it 31 unanswered points.

However Edinburgh soon found themselves under pressure again when Guy gave up his third interception, this time to Mark Craig, who took the ball all the way back for another six points.

Fraser Thompson then rounded off another impressive performance for the Hurricanes when Fraser Thompson got in the end of a Guy pass once again, cutting inside for another impressive touchdown, with Niakate adding another extra point conversion to round off an impressive 44 point whitewash.
