WOLVES EDGE OUT TIGERS AGAIN
EDINBURGH
WOLVES 28-20 GLASGOW TIGERS
Report and Pic C/O Edinburgh Wolves
In a game of two
halves with changeable conditions the Edinburgh Wolves had
to fight hard in the second half to get back into their game against Glasgow Tigers before sealing the win in the 4th Quarter.
Wind conditions
caused havoc for both teams, passing and kicking into the on coming gale making progress hap hazard, leaving both teams to rely on their running games for most of the game.
Glasgow took an
early
lead taking advantage of a lull in the winds to throw a short touchdown pass over the heads of the Wolves secondary. The conversion attempt
of a
run was stopped and the Tigers held a 6-0 lead.
In the second quarter the Wolves fought back and David Molloy scored
on
the ground for his first touchdown of the day.
Molloy was back
in the endzone on the next play scoring a conversion to put
the home side up 8-6.
But Glasgow weren't
finished scoring in the half and using both of their running
backs effectively scored a touchdown and conversion to take a lead going into the half of 14-8
As the crowd were
entertained by the Beeslax High School Dancers during half time, the Wolves were regrouping in the locker room.
For the first time since the move to Meadowbank the Wolves were facing a deficit
at
the half and their unbeaten home record at Meadowbank was under threat.
The Wolves team
that came out on to the field in the second half, was far more focused and switched on.
With steely determination
they clawed their way back into the game with a touchdown
run for Molloy which went un-converted and had the score tied at 14-14 going into the 4th Quarter.
Finally in the
4th Quarter the Crowd got what they were looking for as the
Wolves finally put some daylight between the sides with two back
to back rushing touchdowns for Molloy the final touchdown
being converted by Campbell Lewis and giving the Wolves a
28-14 lead with 9 minutes remaining in the game.
There was still
time on the clock to allow Glasgow to score a touchdown and
comeback into the game giving the Wolves and their supporters a tense few minutes as the score narrowed to 28-20.
However after their touchdown
Glasgow weren't able to get hold of the ball and the Wolves mounted
a clock killing drive to the Tigers 4yard line at which point they choose to take a knee and finish the game.
